An ice bath chiller is essentially a compact refrigeration system that continuously removes heat from the water and maintains a low, stable temperature—typically around 3–15°C (37–59°F), depending on the model and user settings.

1. Water circulation
   A circulation pump draws water from the ice bath tub and sends it through the chiller.
   Ice bath → Pump → Filter → Chiller → Cold water → Ice bath
   The continuous circulation helps maintain a uniform water temperature.
2. Refrigeration system removes heat
   Inside the chiller is a refrigeration circuit consisting mainly of:
   Compressor
   Condenser
   Expansion device
   Evaporator
   Refrigerant
   The compressor circulates refrigerant through the system. The evaporator absorbs heat from the bath water, while the condenser releases that heat into the surrounding air.
3. Cold water returns to the tub
   After passing through the evaporator, the cooled water flows back into the ice bath. The process continues until the water reaches the set temperature.
4. Temperature controller
   A temperature sensor monitors the water temperature. When the temperature rises above the set point, the controller starts the refrigeration system. Once the target temperature is reached, the compressor can stop or cycle according to the controller settings.
5. Filtration and sanitation
   Many ice bath chillers also include a water filter and may support additional sanitation systems such as UV or ozone.
   This helps remove particles and maintain cleaner water, especially when the same water is used repeatedly.
